Challenge

UC Berkeley’s Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity (CLTC) wanted to increase its visibility among cybersecurity professionals, educators, and policymakers while securing media engagement for its research and initiatives.

Business Impact

OnBoard by SBS’ work with UC Berkeley’s CLTC has always been multifaceted, given the variety of audiences their team aims to engage. We began with media training and messaging workshops, which have since evolved and continue to shape the story their team tells every day. Through our partnership, OnBoard has supported a wide range of UC Berkeley CLTC initiatives, including high-profile events and announcements in collaboration with the White House and key government bodies such as the U.S. Department of Education, as well as funding and grant announcements with industry leaders like Google and Craig Newmark.

When we began working with CLTC, they had not previously engaged in PR efforts, so a significant part of our program has been securing opportunities for their team to engage with journalists at priority outlets such as NBC, Politico, CBS, Bloomberg, WIRED, The Wall Street Journal, The Hill, Axios, and Forbes. These efforts have not only increased the visibility of their initiatives domestically but have also strengthened their position as a global leader in cybersecurity thought leadership.

The success of the UC Berkeley initiative was driven by the SBS Comms team, who 829 is excited and proud to have merged with.
